Doing more elaborate VLF-ONE prototyping and design

The attached reusable part DF_T64H1O can be used as VLF-ONE command handler to demonstrate more elaborate prototypes and designs to end users or peer developers. Here’s an example of how it could be used. First I used MS-PowerPoint to create 3 slides and saved them as PNG image files. These were cop...

Re: VLF-ONE Commands not showing in Instance Window

I think it’s an issue with the VLF version you are using. If you uncheck the Show on Instance List Tool Bar option on the Commands Allowed tab for a command handler, then it disappears from above the instance list and as a tab in the command handler window, which is not correct behavior. The correct...

Re: VLF-ONE Close Window

Use #COM_OWNER.avCloseForm

There is an example in Examples -> Advanced -> Custom Manager 1 (source code in DF_T5801O)

Re: VLF-ONE - the framework as the application.

Your framework has an Imbedded interface point (IIP) identified on the (Framework) -> (Properties) -> Framework Details tab. For example, the shipped demo uses reusable part DF_OSYSTM as its IIP. In your framework's IIP try adding this code to the avMAINWindowReady method: #AVFRAMEWORKMANAGER.avSwit...

Re: VLF-ONE custom logon handler.

I think so – you would just bypass displaying the logon and send the pre-checked credentials on to your server side logon validation program which can do whatever it wants to with them. Do you have any ideas firmed up about how to get the pre-checked credentials from the logon form into your VLF-ONE...

Re: VLF-ONE custom logon handler.

There’s a new VLF-ONE version (EPC140026) that should go GA in the next few weeks. In that version the logon capability has been fairly heavily revised and several new features added - so it would probably be better to defer answering this question until you have that new version. Is that a possibil...

Re: Understanding Commitment Control and Best Practices

In most DBMSs commitment control is generally an all or nothing thing - but somewhat weirdly and historically on the IBM i that is not so. You can have some tables (aka files) under commitment control and some not. The only good reason I have ever heard for using this ‘mixed mode’ was if you had a t...

Re: VLF Instance List Code Assistant

Try executing Example Applications -> Advanced -> Instance List Panels.
The filter is DF_T56010O and the snap-in instance list panel is DF_T5602O.

Re: WebPage and Theme

That benefit frees up a fairly large chunk of your brain’s ‘bandwidth’ which you can then redirect to delivering business value from your code.
The benefit also tends to magnify later when your application moves into maintenance and enhancement mode.

Could you post the code or code fragments you are using on the client and the server? Please include the part that sets up the encryption key.

Re: Encryption Web

What about your key? eg: If you use ASCII key "abc" on the client to encrypt you would need to convert EBCDIC key "abc" (on the server) to ASCII before passing to to the decryption routine. You'd probably also need to be careful that the key lengths are exactly the same - maybe use something declare...

You could try these as a quick confirmation - noting they are limited to things <= 256 characters: * --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mthroutine Name(ConvertToEBCDIC) Define_Map For(*input) Class(#prim_alph) Name(#Input) Define_Map For(*Result) Class(...

Re: Encryption Web

IBM i is an EBCDIC system - the client side encrypted data would be ASCII (or UTF8).

So after decryption you need to convert to EBCDIC?

Re: Retrieving Browser

Browser and browser version recognition is a very dodgy art. One example - If your page ever gets displayed by one of the many Windows applications that use the Trident/MSHTML control - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trident_(layout_engine) - then the agent string will tell you things that are no...

Upcoming EPC140006 VLF version requires custom VLF developer or designer entry points to be changed

Custom VLF developer or designer entry points will no longer function. Administrator and end user entry points will still function. A custom designer entry point would have originated from copying UF_DESGN, a developer entry point from copying UF_DEVEL. Upgraded entry points have an invalid method n...
