LANSA licenses virtual machines Model / Machine

Hi,

we have a customer that has recurring problems with licenses.
The Lansa machines there are virtual machines and are managed by VMWare, i.e. this software decides on its own whether to migrate the machines from one host to the next based on workload, etc. There is nothing they can do about it. This seems to cause the licence to stop working every time and thus they are having recurring problems.

When comparing "old" and "new" x_cpu files one can see that all parameters stay the same - except "Model" and "Machine".
"Model "changes in the last case of this from "2D07" to "6A06" and "Machine" from "01p-PX61kOHHUYD3KPk8Xhns4TT6_ouiJmWU8KoLenfus=" to "01ep5x1BD5w2ycyP0C9i2T4FOG_f5ueHFwM8ap9V0xcAQ=".
CPU, Product-ID, HOst Name, OS-Version (Windows Server Server Datacenter (Full Installation) Edition Release 1809 (10.0.0.0 Build 17763) Windows Full UI), OS-Type (64), Terminal Services, Number of Processors, VCode and Choose are still the same.

I could not find any Windows system informations revealing the model number in the x_cpu-file. How is the "Model"-Value generated when using x_cpu?
What is the base for this value and how / where can I retrieve it in the Windows system?
What is the base for the "Machine" value and how can it be retrieved?
How are other companies handling this?

They are on the newest LANSA V15 EPC level.

Kind regards,
Joerg

Hi joerg
In cases like this you need a machine designated as the license server and have a multiple license there, i.e. transfer your developer licenses there.

That license server does nothing but to run a program as a service, just be sure that machine don't change and be the smallest possible and visible to all the developers.

That is the way the online virtual trial of Lansa works.

All the developers stations can be generated or moved, they all request the license from the server, so does not matter what they are.

License server works great. I use it at home because I have 3 PC's with LANSA installed and only one developer seat. As long as I close the IDE when I'm done from one PC I can start it at another PC.
