Installation of release 11.5 - anybody who still remembers?

Post by Joerg Hamacher »

Hi everybody,

an “old” LANSA customer, a publishing house that uses publishing software written with LANSA, has contacted me with a request for support.
The software company that developed the software has not existed for many years and now the last former programmer who provided them with support has also died.

They are still working with LANSA version 11.5., are no longer in maintenance and do not have the money to invest in new versions.
LANSA has provided me with the installation software SPIN0301 for 11.5.

I still have a LANSA installation with 11.5 on my IBMi - but of course without licenses. And also 2 of the old dongles that we had at the time for the VL installation on our PCs.

Unfortunately, I can't manage to install the LANSA 11.5 development environment on a PC. I have tried it on computers with Windows11, Windows10 and even Windows7, but it always fails at the same point (at least it seems to be so) and with the same error (see picture). Doesn't matter if I chosse Standalone or Slave Server installation type.

I have tried the installation directly from the ISO image and also burned the image to DVD and tried the installation from the DVD - the result remains the same.
It also doesn't seem to matter whether the virus software is active or not.

The log file INSTALL.LOG says the following:

Can anyone still remember what it was like with the 11.5. installation?
Do you have any idea what could be causing this?
Do I also have to install the old SQL software (I thought the LANSA installation program did this automatically back then if nothing was installed)?

Many thanks in advance and best regard,
Jörg

Try installing the adaptive server first... use the super old version that should be provided in that DVD. If you are using an iso image unpack the iso image in root folder 8 character length maximum in the name
Don't try to install it in windows 10 or 11. If anything it should run in windows 7.

Hi Jorg

I recall this error from way back...
I don't believe the solution suggested by Dino will make any difference. As I recall it...V11.5 cannot be installed on to a 64-bit O/S. V11.5 was only available for 32-bit O/S.
If you still have a V12 on your IBM, you should be able to install V12 on this PC that you are using.
Obviously, you will be building V12 objects, so runtime support might become an issue if you use new V12 features that are not supported in the V11.5 runtime.

hope that helps.
